Happy New Year to Our Friends and Clients!

Well, we made it through a very interesting year in 2017! The media was focused on the new President while the stock market soared to new heights. Bitcoin has become cocktail party discussion and the weather was not very nice to most of the country! We are sure 2018 will be another very interesting year.

Last week we finally had our first measureable rainfall since September. The much needed rain in our valley lasted only 24 hours and then we went back to the best weather in the country: Blue skies, sunshine and 70-80 degrees. Our local mountain received several inches of snow and the views are beautiful! This was the same storm that devastated Montecito, just south of Santa Barbara.

The Palm Springs International Film Festival has just ended another very successful year! Each year the Film Festival gets larger and receives more recognition. The CareerBuilder Challenge PGA Golf Tournament is getting under way, and has again attracted a very competitive field.

We are now heading into what is usually the busiest period of sales for our local real estate market. The showing activity has just started to pick up and we expect the next 3-4 months will be very busy.

The Luxury Desert Real Estate Update:

Last year at this time, we predicted that the desert's luxury real estate market would show another increase after 2016 showed an overall increase of 11% in home sales above $500,000. In 2017, the number of homes sold above $500,000 was up 25% across the valley! And, the number of homes priced above $1 Million also increased 23.9%, with 472 homes sold in 2016 compared to 585 sold in 2017.

For 2018, we expect to see a continuation of strong sales, but probably not as dramatic of an increase in the numbers of homes sold, especially in the higher price ranges. And, while the number of luxury homes being sold is significant, the inventory of homes for sale remains high. Our market remains very competitive, and the homes that are in the best condition and priced right will continue to have the best chance of selling.
